thanx fer playin! ⭐️

I like it. It reminds me of early indie games from þe 2000's.

this rules!!! ok amazing. only issues: sometimes graphical artifacts, and also i kinda don't like the fake cheep cheeps. i don't mind the overworld design being like that but the enemies are a bit too much. framerate is slow for an action game in 2022 also. this game has everything else going for it. i love the billboards so much. honestly just keep following your beady heart

(1 edit)

thanks for the feedback! can i ask what platform you're on? could you also elaborate on what kinds of graphical artifacts you're seeing? Oh and what's your framerate, is it not hitting 60fps? thanks again!

i'm on windows! the framerate was sub-30 most of the time. i couldn't screenshot for some reason, they were kinda black static-y scanline-ish lines appearing about 1/5 the way from the bottom of the screen.

thanks for letting me know!

hmm, sub 30 makes me sad. would you mind sending me your specs? you can send them to zachisagardner@gmail.com.

were the scanline things persistent? did they happen in any specific situations or levels? fullscreen windowed? there's a display option where you can switch turn on integer scaling, does changing that fix anything?  even if you could send me a picture/video of it with your phone or something of the problem that would be incredibly helpful.

again, thanks so much for letting me know about the problems.

i can't reproduce it, of course lol. i think i maximised the window while it was booting up before going to fullscreen in the options. i tried doing that and it ran perfectly. dang i'm sorry, i tried a few different things and it's too stable now lol

lol well i'm glad it works better for you now! it sounds like i can at least look into fullscreening at awkward times and seeing if that breaks anything.

this was a delight, oozing with personality. loved all the little animations, and the music was pleasant. the badges provided some fun new options which is always appreciated. I started having a little trouble on the last boss when I noticed you included an option to raise your own hitpoints. much appreciated for a low skill gamer like myself. Looking forward to seeing more!

thanks for playing! 💖 yeah the difficulty is gonna need lots of balancing

I accidentally made one of the final levels incredibly hard for myself by forgetting I could shoot the bubbles instead of only avoiding them, whoopsie

there's prolly something i can do to subtly remind players of that

oh hey Im still on this page weee, congrats on the launch, looking forward to playing through everything you've added since the demo!

how do i play it?

i am confused beacouse there is no .exe file

Are you on Windows? There's a shortcut, with a star icon, that should start the game. If not, the .exe is in /stuff/BanzoQuest.exe. Let me know of that helps!

Thanks, and yes i am on Windows

Made a video

This is such a ton of fun. It feels so video-gamey. What a blast

Tried it out for a bit and absolutely loved it! The art, the music, the design... Loved every bit!

from what I've played so far this is a really fun game
my only criticism would be that the re-load cutscene after dying is a bit long but otherwise this is great

glad u liked it and thanks for the feedback!

Mega sad I won't be able to play this on my Chromebook (os). It looks great and really cute ahh!

Sorry! Yeah I only know how to support Windows, Mac, and Linux at the moment

While I cannot command, I can highly encourage you to make this full commercial product so that one day people can buy and enjoy it also on consoles :)

thanks! i'm trying my best!

Can’t wait to try it! Congrats (:

i’ve been following development on twitter for a few weeks and i love this so much

the sprites are cute and controls + gameplay feel great

thanks for playing! 🙌

im not sure if this is a bug but anytime i open the shortcut it just opens documents.

hmm sorry that's happening, hopefully that should be fixed with the newest release tomorrow

unfortunately it still doesn't work now it just wont open

can you tell me what operating system you're using and the version?

does it open if you don't use the shortcut? if you really wanna help you could check the following path and send me what's in there to zachisagardner@gmail.com

its a problem with my graphics drivers apparently i need to update them.

(1 edit) (+2)

Was a great and quite funny experience to be honest. Great art and music, and soime solid platforming. Feels very bullethell ish. Which personally isn't my favourite way to make a platformer. But its still a great experience. And 10/10 characters btw.

Controlls very well, i LOVE the dodge move. Adds a lot. The infinite flying removes a bit of the tacktile feel of some platforming. Making more of the gameplay take place in a flying floaty state, instead of jumping and doging. But i doubt that could change at this point hehe.

I'd love to see this fleshed out mechanically. Especially in how you interact with the world. The simple shooting and doging could use to variations. Maybe an object that you can swallow and spit out. Think koopa shell/bob-omb. But while you do, you can't spit. Or a mass to swim or move trough in different ways like water/celeste space blocks.

Some extra stuff

- What is money?

- Sometimes i see the spaces between the tiles when moving. Also why is this game 380mb? Im just currious what part of the game, be it assets or some framework that takes up a lot of space. And the game feels a bit choppy at times. Like the framerate dips slightly.

- The level design nerd in me wants my hands all over this level editor to make shit

thanks very much for your feedback! i'm working on a large update at the moment and i've neglected to update the demo... there's lots of new stuff, but i think a lot of your feedback is still relevant. it's still needs some work, but i think i might be able to share the next version soon-ish.

yeah i agree it would be cool to add more interactive mechanics, like picking up stuff/ koopa shells. i'll think about it! i feel like i'm running out of buttons and the main character doesn't have arms, so it's tough to figure this one out...

the money doesn't do anything, you can think of them like celeste strawberries. in the current working version of the game i ditched this idea.

i've made some performance improvements and lots of other fixes since this version, so hopefully issues like fps dips and weird tile gaps will be resolved.

the file size was really large because i was using .wav files for the songs. i've since converted them to .oggs. it's about half the size now.

Nicely done! I enjoyed playing this game. I like the choice of difficulty along the game play.

A really fun demo! The platforming is tight, the animations are charming and the characters wacky. I was worried about difficulty at first but there are plenty of checkpoints so dying never set me back more than 10 seconds. A great little experience by itself and I'm excited to see more.
